Bangkok: The Election Commission (EC) has initiated an investigation into potential collusion in the election of senators by appointing three officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to join the inquiry committee.
According to Thai News Agency, the EC meeting resolved to appoint civil servants from the DSI as officials under Section 42 of the Organic Act on the Election Commission. This move includes the formation of a seven-member investigation and inquiry committee tasked with collecting evidence related to the national senator election scheduled for June 26, 2025. To facilitate the investigation, a seven-member subcommittee has also been established to support the main committee’s work.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanin Noi Lek, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Investigation and Inquiry Committee. The committee includes Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Rojananirankit, Deputy Director-General of the DSI; Ms. Suttada Kongdecha, Director of Investigation Division 1; Mr. Chanchai Samakhom, Director of Investigation Division 2; Mr. Rawi Aksornsiri, Director of the Criminal Money Laundering Division, DSI; Mr. Ekarin Dondong, Director of the Research and Development Division of Special Equipment of the Technology Case and Inspection Data Center, DSI; and Mr. Prakian Phian Dee, Director of Investigation Division 5.
The subcommittee, appointed under Section 37, will support the work of the main Investigation and Inquiry Committee, focusing on uncovering and addressing any collusion activities in the senator election process.
