Election Commission Chairman Unfazed by Lawsuits, Confirms Certification of Party-List MPs

Bangkok: The chairman of the Election Commission, Narong Klanwarin, has expressed confidence in his adherence to legal duties, despite lawsuits filed against the commission. Narong revealed that the certification for party-list Members of Parliament (MPs) will be announced tomorrow. Today, newly elected MPs received their certification letters from the Election Commission. Warayuth Jongaksorn, a first-term MP from Yasothon representing the Bhumjaithai Party, expressed pride in his new role and pledged to advocate for improved agricultural product prices to benefit the people of Yasothon, aligning with Supajee's strategies for agricultural management.

According to Thai News Agency, newly elected Members of Parliament gathered at the Election Commission office this morning to receive their certificates. Officials were on duty as usual. Warayuth Jongaksorn was the first to receive his certification, representing Constituency 2 in Yasothon Province. Jongaksorn mentioned that the party planned for all constituency MPs to report for duty collectively on March 5th. However, due to a personal commitment related to a family bereavement, he collected his certificate today and plans to register officially at a later, more convenient time.

Jongaksorn expressed his happiness and pride in being elected as a first-time MP, aiming to contribute to the development of Yasothon Province, which he noted as being underdeveloped despite its strategic position as a transit province with a predominantly agricultural population. He emphasized the impact of global events like the conflict in Iran and the trade war on farmers, notably the rising costs of oil and fertilizer. Jongaksorn stressed the need for government intervention to assist farmers and highlighted the importance of increasing the prices of key agricultural products like rice, cassava, and rubber to enhance farmers' quality of life.

He agreed with the agricultural product management approach advocated by Ms. Supajee Suthamphan, the Minister of Commerce, which includes exploring new markets and balancing domestic demand and supply. Her initial focus is on raising the price of off-season rice during her first 100 days in office, benefiting Yasothon's farmers during peak growing seasons.

Subsequently, MPs Phitsanu Phonthi from Pathum Thani Constituency 7 and Nop Cheewanan from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Constituency 2, both from the Bhumjaithai Party, also received their certificates.

At 10:15 AM, Narong Klanwarin visited the office to oversee the certification process for newly elected MPs. He assured reporters that the certification of party-list MPs would be completed by Wednesday, March 4th, with no extension to the March 6th deadline.

Addressing the lawsuits against the Election Commission regarding election management, Narong stated he is unconcerned, asserting that his actions have been in accordance with the law. He acknowledged the rights of individuals to file lawsuits and affirmed the Election Commission's commitment to defending its position, stating there is no cause for concern.
