Bangkok: The Election Commission Chairman has announced that zoning preparations for the upcoming provincial administrative organization elections scheduled for February 2025 are complete, with no anticipated issues related to the readiness of the "referendum law." According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, the Chairman of the Election Commission, stated in an interview that the Commission has been consistently working on the preparations for electing provincial administrative organization (PAO) governors. He confirmed that the zoning for these elections was finalized about a week ago and is now undergoing accuracy checks. Once verified, the zoning details will be published in the Royal Gazette for all 76 provinces, a process expected to conclude by mid-November. Regarding the progress of the referendum law, Mr. Ittiporn highlighted that the drafting and implementation of this law are responsibilities of the government and relevant agencies. He emphasized that the Election Commission's role i s to conduct referendums once the necessary legal framework is in place, regardless of whether this coincides with the PAO elections. The Commission is prepared to facilitate a referendum whenever required. He also clarified that the election for PAO members will proceed as planned, in line with legal requirements, following the termination of current memberships on December 29, 2024, with elections to be held within 45 days, around early February 2025.
