Hua Hin: The EC chairman revealed that the number of petitions for "municipal elections" has increased to 352, warning against breaking the law and inviting people to come out and exercise their rights. It is expected that the unofficial results will be known no later than 10 p.m.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, visited the polling stations for the election of municipal council members and mayors at Hua Hin School, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. There are 8 polling stations in the school, and he greeted eligible voters who were found waiting to exercise their rights before the opening of voting.
The EC chairman also stated that he had instructed people to be careful about possible rain by checking the weather conditions, such as in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province where it rained last night, particularly in Hua Hin District. This morning, polling stations were able to open for people to exercise their right to vote without any issues.
The latest complaints about election law violations have increased from 338 to 352. The EC aims to avoid repeating the last municipal election, which had 1,743 complaints. A deterrent has been ordered, and voters are urged not to engage in illegal activities, especially vote buying.
It is expected that 70 percent of voters nationwide will exercise their rights, and the public is invited to participate. The unofficial vote count results will be known no later than 10:00 p.m., and at the earliest, 8:00 p.m.
Regarding the issue raised by the senators concerning the issuance of a summons to acknowledge the charges, the matter of closing the summons, sending the summons, or sending a letter to notify the appointment according to the regulations is the authority and duty of the Investigation and Inquiry Committee to proceed. It is their discretion to choose the method. He also confirmed that there is no discrimination, and progress reports are made periodically. There is no rush because the time frame for completing every case is set at one year.
The EC has requested the DSI to appoint officials to join the 26th Investigation and Inquiry Committee as a joint effort, ensuring no undue pressure, especially from political influences.
