Electrician Certification Fees Slashed to 100 Baht Until 2025

Bangkok: The Department of Skill Development has announced a significant reduction in the assessment and certification fee for building electricians, bringing it down from 1,000 baht to just 100 baht. This reduced fee will be in effect until December 31, 2025, allowing electricians an extended period to take advantage of this opportunity.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Samas Patmasukon, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, emphasized the importance of electricians possessing current knowledge and understanding of electrical systems, which play a critical role in various aspects of daily life such as homes, workplaces, and communication networks. Mr. Samas highlighted that there are currently over 140,000 certified electricians, but approximately 100,000 of them have expired certifications. He also noted that many electricians have never undergone a skills assessment, which could result in fines of up to 5,000 baht if they remain uncertified.

Mr. Samas further explained the rationale behind the fee reduction, stating that it is intended to alleviate the financial burden on electricians seeking competency assessments. The Ministerial Regulation has facilitated this fee reduction to 100 baht, effective immediately until the end of 2025, after which the fee will revert to the original rate of 1,000 baht. Electricians are encouraged to seize this opportunity promptly before the offer expires. It is essential to conduct the assessment at an institute or office of the Department of Skill Development, as the discounted rate will not apply to assessments conducted at private centers or educational institutions, even if they are accredited by the Department.
