Buriram: Farmers in the border region are rushing to harvest their crops, fearing a third clash. Farmers along the Thai-Cambodian border in Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province, harvested cassava to sell, earning income for their families and saving as reserve funds in case of a third round of fighting.
According to Thai News Agency, farmers in Chanthaburi Province, Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province, located along the Thai-Cambodian border, have been affected by recent fighting. Several Cambodian artillery shells landed in their rubber and cassava plantations. They are rushing to tap rubber and harvest cassava to sell for family income and to build up reserves in case a third round of fighting forces them to evacuate the area.
Ms. Jintana, a cassava farmer, said that although she is still uncertain about the situation and the possibility of clashes occurring at any time, she needs to earn a living. She admitted to being afraid because she doesn't know if there are any unexploded artillery shells in the area, but she has to hurry and harvest her crop to sell. If there is a third clash, she hopes it will be resolved quickly and not dragged out, as villagers along the border are suffering greatly.
