Ratchaburi: FIFA has confirmed that four nations will participate in the FIFA Women's Series 2026 football tournament in Thailand, marking a significant milestone as the first Asian country to host the event.
According to Thai News Agency, the International Federation of Football (FIFA) has sent a letter confirming Thailand as the host for the FIFA Series 2026 women's football tournament. This decision came after a successful bid from "Madam Pang" Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand. The event is scheduled to take place from April 9-15, 2026, in Ratchaburi Province.
The FIFA Series of football is a pilot project initiated by FIFA with the goal of increasing national participation in both men's and women's football. This initiative aims to unite nations from different continents, exposing them to various forms of football and promoting development among athletes, coaches, and fans. Additionally, it serves as a platform for international trade and growth in new markets for each participating nation.
FIFA has selected four nations to compete in the women's football tournament: the Thai women's national football team, ranked 53rd in the world; the Democratic Republic of Congo, ranked 109th; Nepal, ranked 89th; and one more nation from Oceania.
The competition format features each participating women's football team playing two matches. The first match is a doubles game between the four teams to determine the winners, who will then face the winners of the other doubles match, while the losers will compete against the losers of the second match.
The matches are scheduled for April 12, 2026, at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and the second set of matches will be played on April 15, 2026, at the same times, at Ratchaburi Stadium, Ratchaburi Province.
