Fire at Pahurat Market Caused by Short Circuit in Power Strip

Bangkok: A fire broke out in the middle of the night at Pahurat Market. Officials evacuated residents and took 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The cause was an electrical short circuit in an extension cord.

According to Thai News Agency, at 1:00 a.m. on September 13, 2015, Police Lieutenant Sittichai Khatkaew, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Phra Ratchawang Police Station, received a report of a fire at a residential home near the China World Hotel on Phahurat Road, Wang Burapha Phirom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. He rushed to the scene along with officers from the Phu Khao Thong Fire and Rescue Station.

The incident occurred at a three-story building in Pahurat Market, a fabric and jewelry center. Large amounts of smoke were found on the second floor, so officials rushed to help evacuate trapped residents from the area safely.

From an inspection of the first floor of the shop, which sells clothing and accessories, a fire was found. Water was used to extinguish the fire, which was put out in about 20 minutes. The damaged area was approximately 24 square meters.

Initially, officials determined the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in an extension cord plug. No one was injured or killed at the scene.
