Fire Devastates Nearly 10 Fishing Boats off Khanom Coast

Khanom: A dramatic fire erupted in the early hours at the fishing pier in Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, destroying nearly 10 large fishing boats and causing damages exceeding 10 million baht. Several fire trucks and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, where they battled the fierce blaze under challenging conditions.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire broke out at 1:00 AM at the Chok Anavil pier and quickly spread to the P. Pornnimit Charoenchai pier. Firefighters struggled to control the situation due to strong winds, finally managing to subdue the flames after approximately four hours. Initial assessments indicate that eight fishing boats were completely destroyed.

Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit on one of the vessels as the initial cause, although arson has not been ruled out. Witnesses described seeing a fishing vessel catch fire, with its mooring rope breaking, leading it to collide with a nearby vessel and further spreading the blaze. The exact origin of the fire remains under investigation.
