Firework Factory Explosion in Phetchaburi Destroys Homes and Injures Two

Bangkok: A firework factory explosion in Phetchaburi city resulted in significant damage to nearly 10 houses and left two people injured, including the factory owner. The incident occurred in the heart of the city, causing widespread destruction and concern among residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Arthit Boonkroe, Deputy Investigator at Mueang Phetchaburi Police Station, reported that the explosion took place at Ban Rai Teen Nam in Moo 2, Ton Mamuang Subdistrict. The blast caused extensive damage to homes in the vicinity. Rescue workers quickly responded, transporting the injured to Phra Chom Klao Hospital. The victims were identified as Mr. Songkran Napaprommongkol, also known as "Kamnan Muek," a 68-year-old former headman of Ton Mamuang Subdistrict, and his wife, Mrs. Nanthaphat Pongcharoen, 42 years old. Both sustained minor injuries, primarily abrasions.

The explosion affected nearly 10 houses in the area, with roofs blown off, ceiling panels torn, and doors and windows shattered. Two vehicles, including a car and a pickup truck, were also damaged. A detailed assessment of the damage is pending a thorough investigation by forensic police officers.

Initial reports suggest that the married couple was residing in the house prior to the incident. The explosion originated from a firework made of black powder placed in the garage, which detonated with a loud blast audible over 10 kilometers away. This caused substantial damage to the surrounding houses. The factory, legally licensed to operate a fireworks business for over 40 years, is now under investigation. Police have cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access while forensic experts work to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
