Flash Floods Inundate Doi Lor District, Affecting Hundreds of Homes

Bangkok: Flash floods have severely impacted the Doi Lor District as heavy rains continue to batter the region, particularly affecting areas surrounding the Mae Khan River. Unstable weather patterns have caused significant rainfall in the mountains of Khun Khan National Park, leading to flash floods that have inundated homes and disrupted the lives of residents.

According to Thai News Agency, rainfall accumulating over 24 hours exceeded 90 millimeters, which resulted in flash floods pouring into the Mae Khan River. The overflowing river has caused substantial damage in low-lying areas along its banks. Nearly a hundred homes in Ban Sop Ao, located in the Santisuk Subdistrict of Doi Lor District, have been affected, with water levels rising to almost one meter in some locations.

Pornpan Kusolsang, the village headman of Ban Sop Ao, highlighted that the community has experienced flooding five times this year, with the main road to the village cut off since mid-last year. The village has prepared for such events, with plans to relocate elderly, bedridden, and vulnerable residents to higher ground. As of this morning, floodwaters began inundating the community, with water levels rising steadily by noon. The situation remains precarious as additional flash floods from Samoeng District continue to feed into the Mae Khan River. However, the floodwaters are expected to recede by tomorrow morning if no further rain occurs, providing some relief to the affected residents.
