Rangsit:Flooding has impacted the Rangsit Canal near the Red Bridge as water levels have surpassed critical thresholds, hindering drainage efforts due to continuous heavy rainfall.
According to Thai News Agency, authorities, including the Irrigation Department, are working urgently to divert water into the Chao Phraya River to alleviate the situation. The overflow from the canal has resulted in floodwaters reaching depths of 20 to 50 centimeters, making roads along the even-numbered canals impassable for small vehicles and inundating nearby homes.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Chakraphan Pornnimith, representing the Deputy Minister of Interior, and other officials have inspected the affected areas. They are considering declaring certain parts of Pathum Thani Province as disaster zones to expedite assistance. The Royal Irrigation Department has been advised to expedite water diversion at the Rangsit Canal sluice gates and pumping stations.
Pol. Lt. Col. Trilup Thupkrachang, Mayor of Rangsit Municipality, noted that around 40 communities have been impacted by the flooding. The heavy rains have caused water from nearby districts to flow into the Rangsit Canal, complicating drainage efforts due to the canal's high water levels. The municipality is prepared with water pumps to aid in draining once canal levels allow.
The Mayor also mentioned alternative drainage routes towards Bang Pakong and expressed readiness to pump water from flooded areas into the canal as soon as conditions permit. However, increased water discharge by the Royal Irrigation Department could further challenge the canal's drainage capacity, especially if the Chao Phraya River's level remains high. The current discharge rate of 1850 cubic meters per second contrasts with previous levels, highlighting the impact of recent heavy rainfall.
