Palm beach: Florida has officially renamed a street in honor of U.S. President Donald Trump. The renaming ceremony took place near his private club in Palm Beach, marking another addition to the list of buildings, projects, and programs bearing his name since his re-election as U.S. president in January.
According to Thai News Agency, state legislators approved the renaming of a section of Southern Boulevard. This road connects Palm Beach International Airport to Mar-a-Lago, Trump's club and private residence, and is often used by the presidential motorcade. At the ceremony held in Mar-a-Lago, President Trump expressed that he was honored by the tribute and would remember the gesture for the rest of his life. Despite the renaming, the county commission reported that it would not impact the official address, emergency response system, or maps.
Since taking office, Trump's name has been associated with iconic buildings in Washington, D.C., and initiatives like a new class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreigners, a government-prescribed medication website, and federal savings accounts for children. In Washington, D.C., buildings and monuments are often named after presidents long after they leave office, usually requiring national approval.
Historians have noted that this move might be an attempt by Trump to bolster his political legacy, despite possibly being a temporary success. Moreover, there has been controversy over the renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to include Trump's name, causing several actors to withdraw from the program in protest.
