Bangkok: Forensic investigators evaluating the fire at Khlong Thom Center, a popular auto parts and electronics market in Bangkok, have been unable to access the point of origin due to structural damage, authorities said on Monday.
According to Thai News Agency, Major General Watee Asawutmangkul, commander of the Central Forensic Science Division, reported that collapsed parking levels on the second and third floors are obstructing access to Zone C on the first floor, where the fire is believed to have started. Demolition of the damaged structures is required before officers can safely collect evidence.
Suppakorn Sonmai, head of the Pom Prap Sattru Phai District civil engineering division, said the building's owner has agreed to hire contractors and engineers to clear the site this week.
Major General Chaikrit Pho-ah, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 6, stated that 170 individuals have filed complaints and 138 have been interviewed so far. Investigators have not ruled out any potential causes, including accident or arson, and are awaiting forensic results alongside confirmation of the building's insurance coverage.
