Bangkok: GC has commenced operations at its Olefins Plant 4 as planned, marking a significant step in addressing the supply strain in the market. The facility, which boasts a maximum production capacity of 520,000 tons per year of ethylene and 256,000 tons per year of propylene, is now operational.
According to Thai News Agency, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) has resumed operations at its Olefins Plant Unit 4 (OLE 4) after planned maintenance. The company is gradually delivering its key products to customers, which will serve as raw materials for GC's continuous production of polyethylene (PE) pellets and for the production of polypropylene (PP) pellets, helping to ease market tensions.
GC's olefins plant is notable for its raw material flexibility, capable of accommodating a wide variety of materials. Integrated operations with other production units within the complex enhance raw material and energy efficiency. Furthermore, a complete upstream-to-downstream supply chain structure ensures continuous production management. OLE 4 has a maximum production capacity of 520,000 tons per year of ethylene, the primary raw material for GC's polyethylene (PE) plastic pellet production, and 256,000 tons per year of propylene, which is supplied as raw material to domestic polypropylene (PP) plastic pellet producers.
This planned resumption of operations will help reinforce the continuity of domestic raw material supply, supporting the continued sufficient production of PE plastic pellets and stabilizing the supply. It will also help alleviate the tightness in PP, which has been partially affected by import restrictions resulting from the tense situation in the Middle East.
