General Apirat Kongsompong Expresses Condolences as Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions Escalate

Bangkok: "Big Lek" (General Apirat Kongsompong) expressed condolences over the death of one more soldier, stating that the deployment of survey markers will be temporarily suspended and the matter will be discussed again later. He also confirmed that preparations to intercept drones have been made.

According to Thai News Agency, General Natthaphol Nakpanich, Minister of Defence, stated after the Cabinet meeting that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, also Minister of Interior, had not issued any further instructions regarding the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. He also acknowledged receiving additional reports today of one more soldier killed, expressing his condolences. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of caution among troops as the Cambodian side is employing a wider variety of weapons.

When asked whether the temporary placement of markers would be suspended or canceled due to the clashes, General Nattaphol stated that it must be stopped for now and they will reconsider the matter afterward.

When pressed further on whether it wasn't a complete cancellation, General Natthaphol said, "We'll discuss that again later. We'll talk about it again."

Regarding whether any additional measures are needed for the evacuation of citizens, General Nattapol said that he has instructed the Ministry of Interior to handle it because budgetary issues are involved.
