Government Attracts Over 1.6 Billion Baht in Foreign Film Investment

Bangkok: The government has successfully attracted foreign film crews to invest over 1.6 billion baht following a prominent performance at the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted the successful achievements of Team Thailand during their participation in the event, held from March 17-20, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event aimed to showcase Thailand's potential as an international film production destination. During the first two days, March 17-18, 2026, significant interest was drawn from international film and entertainment producers. Sixteen major producers from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and New Zealand expressed intentions to conduct filming in Thailand between late 2026 and 2027, with an estimated investment totaling over 1.6 billion baht. This figure surpasses the target set by the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

The success of the event demonstrates the confidence foreign filmmakers have in Thailand, attributed to its varied filming locations, the readiness of its film industry personnel, and enticing government incentives. The Thai government offers cash rebates of up to 30% for foreign film productions, a factor that has bolstered international interest.

Discussions with film producers also highlighted the rising popularity of vertical content production in China. This type of content, which meets the digital-age audience's demands, requires less investment, presenting an opportunity for Thailand. Developing policies to support this trend could attract more producers and leverage the growth potential within this sector.
