Gunman Arrested After Shooting Police and Undercover Agent During Sting Operation

According to Thai News Agency, progress in the case of police and undercover agents buying firearms on the night of March 22 at 8:00 p.m. at Soi Kanchanaphisek 9, Intersection 7, by the investigation police of the Metropolitan Police Bureau 3, bought illegal firearms from Mr. Meechai, age 38, with an appointment to deliver a .38 revolver for 35,000 baht. However, Mr. Meechai's group, who came with 3 others, became aware in time. Mr. Mai, Mr. Meechai's friend, pulled out a gun and shot the undercover agent and officers to clear their escape route, causing the police officer to be shot in the shoulder and the undercover agent to be shot in the stomach, seriously injuring him. Mr. Mai then got into his car and drove away, leaving his girlfriend to run away in another direction. Only Mr. Meechai was unable to escape in time and was arrested.

The latest is that Pol. Col. Nirutphon Yothamat, Superintendent of Khan Na Yao Police Station, gave information that the investigation team of Metropolitan Police Division 3 has now tracked down and arrested Mr. Mai. Mr. Mai confessed that he was the one who shot the policeman to clear his escape route. As for the woman who was with him, she claimed that she was just a girlfriend who took the car with her and was not involved or aware of the incident. However, the police will urgently track down the woman who is hiding and bring her in for questioning.

Initially, the police charged him with arms trafficking, obstructing an officer, and carrying a gun without a license in public. The undercover officer's condition is still serious, while the undercover police officer's condition is safe.
