Gunmen Fire Over 22 Rounds at Former Deputy Mayor’s Home, Investigation Stalls

Trang: Gunmen opened fire on the home of a former deputy mayor of a sub-district administrative organization nearly a month ago, and the case has made no progress. A former deputy mayor of Wang Wan Subdistrict, Trang Province, appealed to the media after unknown assailants fired more than 22 rounds from an M16 assault rifle at his house, but nearly a month has passed with no progress in the case, despite clear evidence.

According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage from in front of a house in Moo 3, Wang Wan Subdistrict, Kantan District, at 2:25 AM on June 10th, is crucial evidence that Mr. Prateep Nasom, or Bang Dech, 63, former deputy mayor of Wang Wan Subdistrict, presented to the media in his plea for justice. The footage shows one assailant riding an unidentified motorcycle past the house twice before turning back, parking, and firing more than 22 rounds from an M16 assault rifle before fleeing.

Mr. Prateep recounted that on the day of the incident, only his wife and son were home. They called to inform him that unknown assailants had fired shots at his house, damaging the walls, windows, and a parked pickup truck. Fortunately, no one was injured. He believes the shooting was deliberately aimed at killing people in the house. The motive is still unclear. He insists he has no problems or conflicts with anyone. Although his son had previously been involved in a fight and assaulted a friend, resulting in imprisonment, he has been released from prison for many years and rarely goes out, staying mostly at home.

His family is emotionally distressed; his wife and son are terrified and have moved to another province, while he himself is too afraid to go to work and stays at home. He is seeking help from the media to amplify his voice and urge the police to quickly apprehend the perpetrators. This is the second shooting incident at his house; the first occurred on December 6, 2021, and the perpetrators were not arrested. Almost a month has passed, and there has been no progress in issuing arrest warrants or making arrests. The police have only stated that they are investigating, and while there are some clues, they are unclear. He is concerned that if more time passes, evidence may be lost.
