Yala: Authorities are hunting for gunmen who fatally shot a police officer from Ta Se Police Station in front of his residence in Mueang Yala district. The tragic incident unfolded when Police Sergeant Imrom, 28, was shot in the head and critically wounded, later dying from his injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the Governor of Yala Province led officials to investigate the shooting incident, which occurred in Lam Mai Subdistrict. Initial investigations reveal that Sergeant Imrom had been having Iftar with his family in preparation for Eid al-Fitr when he stepped outside and was attacked. His older brother, also a police officer, managed to return fire in self-defense, forcing the attackers to flee amidst the chaos.
Authorities have cordoned off the scene and await forensic investigators to examine the site and apprehend the perpetrators. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was orchestrated by an insurgent group aiming to demonstrate their capability during the last 10 days of Ramadan and before Eid al-Fitr.
