Highway Police Intercept Twin Cars with Fake License Plates

Chonburi: Highway police have successfully intercepted two vehicles operating with fake license plates, leading to significant legal repercussions for the driver involved and distress for the legitimate license plate owner who had been wrongly receiving traffic tickets. According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded when highway police arrested Mr. Sengiam, a 47-year-old driver of a white Honda Jazz, on Highway 3 in the Bang Saray Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. The vehicle was found to be equipped with falsified Bangkok license plates, resulting in the seizure of the plates as evidence. The case came to light after a complaint from the rightful owner, Ms. Khemini, who reported receiving multiple traffic tickets for violations she did not commit. Investigations revealed that Mr. Sengiam had intentionally used Ms. Khemini's license plate details to mimic her vehicle, creating a deceptive 'twin' to evade law enforcement. Further inspection of the vehicle's chassis number revealed a mi smatch; the car was registered under a different owner, Ms. Manasawan, indicating an attempt to disguise the vehicle's true identity. The license plates on Mr. Sengiam's vehicle did not comply with the Department of Land Transport's regulations, confirming suspicions of forgery. Consequently, Mr. Sengiam was taken to Sattahip Police Station, facing charges of forging and using forged official documents. Authorities have issued a warning to the public about the illegality of using another person's vehicle information to fabricate new license or tax plates. They emphasize that all vehicle transactions should be conducted through the Department of Land Transport or provincial transport offices to prevent such fraudulent activities. This advisory aims to raise awareness about the potential legal dangers and responsibilities associated with vehicle registration and ownership.
