Inmate Captured After Escape from Huai Klang Temporary Prison

Lang Suan: The Department of Corrections has announced that an inmate who escaped from the Huai Klang Temporary Prison has been successfully apprehended. The inmate had managed to escape while participating in a training session at the prison's car care shop following a visit with relatives.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on January 20, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. It is believed that the inmate made his escape by walking through a nearby palm plantation. Upon discovering the inmate's absence, prison authorities, along with officers from the Lang Suan District Police Station and Chumphon Provincial Police Station, commenced an immediate search.

The search concluded when police officers from Nai Hut Police Station were notified around 6:30 a.m. on January 21, 2025, that personnel at Khuan Hin Mui Railway Station had detained the fugitive. The inmate was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for legal proceedings. Initial investigations suggest personal issues may have prompted the escape attempt.

The Huai Klang Temporary Prison is an open facility designed to prepare inmates close to release by providing agricultural and service work training. In light of this incident, the Department of Corrections plans to implement stricter supervision measures while continuing to focus on vocational training as part of inmate rehabilitation. This approach aims to equip inmates with skills for employment post-release, reducing the likelihood of reoffending.
