Bangkok: The Department of Livestock Development (DLD) celebrated its 84th anniversary with the launch of the 'DLD e-Tracking' system, a real-time tracking and inspection system for livestock products. This initiative aims to support animal disease prevention, reduce illegal trafficking, enhance safety standards, and improve the competitiveness of Thai livestock products in the global market.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, presided over the opening ceremony of the 84th anniversary celebration of the Department of Livestock Development, under the theme "84 Years of the Department of Livestock Development: Striving for Modernity with a Digital Heart," at the Department of Livestock Development, Ratchathewi District, Bangkok. Dr. Somchuan Ratnamangklanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, and other relevant officials also attended. The event featured a presentation of the "DLD e-Tracking" system, a key innovation driving the Department of Livestock Development towards a tangible digital organization. This system enables real-time tracking and inspection of livestock products via GPS tracking technology and a mobile application. It links data with the Department of Livestock Development's central database, covering imports, transit through the Kingdom, exports, and special surveillance areas. The system also connects data throughout the production chain, enhancing the efficiency of animal disease prevention and control, reducing illegal animal and livestock product trafficking, and building confidence in the safety of Thai livestock products. This is crucial for maintaining export markets and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai agricultural products in the global market.
Ms. Piyarat said that this event reflects the organizational development direction of the Department of Livestock Development, which aims to systematically apply digital technology in various aspects, including internal management, animal disease surveillance and control, livestock system development, and public services, in order to drive the policy of "Innovative Agriculture for the Sustainability of Thai Farmers." The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives prioritizes upgrading production with digital technology, coupled with managing agricultural products throughout the supply chain to support marketing and export, as well as promoting cooperation between the government, private sector, and farmers. In particular, upgrading production systems and traceability throughout the supply chain is a crucial foundation for the future development of a digital organization.
Dr. Somchuan stated that the Department of Livestock Development is moving forward with streamlining work processes, reducing redundancy, and upgrading services through electronic systems. This aims to improve the efficiency of staff and prepare for future changes. Currently, the Thai livestock sector plays a crucial role in the country's economy. In 2025, the value of livestock product exports exceeded 330 billion baht, and this trend is expected to continue growing in 2026. Key products include broiler chickens, eggs, honey, processed products, and pet food. The development of a tracking and traceability system will help maintain standards, safety, and market confidence in exports in the long term.
In addition, the event featured activities and booths offering comprehensive veterinary services to the public, such as sterilization surgery, rabies vaccination, microchipping, and free dog and cat registration. This aimed to promote pet health care and raise public awareness of animal welfare. Furthermore, affordable chicken eggs were sold to help reduce the cost of living for the public, and an exhibition titled "84 Years of the Department of Livestock Development: Standing Alongside Thai Farmers" showcased the role, mission, and significant developments of the Department of Livestock Development in continuously supporting Thai agriculture. On the same occasion, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives presented 25 cows to farmers in Khamsakaesang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, under the Royal Initiative's Cattle and Buffalo Bank for Farmers Project. Awards were also presented to personnel and networks who have contributed to the Department of Livestock Development, to boost morale and se rve as a good example in developing the country's livestock sector. "The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is moving forward with proactive operations by integrating cooperation from all sectors to strengthen Thai farmers in a tangible way and prepare for future changes," said Ms. Piyarat.
