Bangkok: Jesd, the Rak Chart Party's prime ministerial candidate, has reassured the public that tourist and student visas remain valid for entry into the United States, despite concerns over potential travel bans announced by President Donald Trump. Jesada emphasized the need for the Thai government to engage in urgent diplomatic negotiations to address these concerns.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetsada Tonawanik, the Chart Thai Party's prime ministerial candidate, addressed the anxiety among Thais regarding the proposed U.S. travel restrictions. He clarified that the perceived threat is not as severe as feared, affirming that tourist and student visas are unaffected. He called on the Thai government to act swiftly, using diplomatic channels to mitigate the situation and uphold national dignity.
Mr. Jetsada Tonawanik, representing the Rak Chart Party, further explained the panic among Thai citizens in light of President Trump's policy, which aims to restrict entry from 75 countries, including Thailand. He urged calm, explaining that the notion of a complete ban is inaccurate. Mr. Jetsada provided clarity by categorizing travelers: those affected include immigrants or individuals applying for permanent residency, as well as those seeking to reside with relatives in the U.S., who are specifically targeted by Trump's policy.
For those already legally residing in the U.S. and without any legal infractions, Mr. Jetsada confirmed they would not face deportation. He assured that holders of tourist (B1/B2) visas can continue to travel without concern, and students attending recognized educational institutions can pursue their studies as planned.
Mr. Jetsada stressed the importance of the Thai government taking immediate action to provide the public with accurate information to prevent unnecessary panic. He urged the government to leverage Thailand's relationship with the United States to negotiate with President Trump about the inclusion of Thailand in the list of affected countries, emphasizing the need to protect Thai interests and resolve issues for those impacted.
