Jirayu Claims Opposition to Entertainment Complex Stems from Loss of Benefits

Bangkok: "Jirayu" believes that the group opposing the entertainment complex is losing its benefits, emphasizing that bringing the underground business up will allow it to be controlled. Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, discussed the draft of the Entertainment Complex Act, stating the government's intention to address underground issues. Currently, there are capital groups attempting to overturn the draft; however, the government maintains that regulating underground activities will allow for better control, drawing comparisons with other countries that have adopted similar measures.

According to Thai News Agency, the recent Cabinet meeting highlighted three main issues: firstly, observations from the NACC committee urging the Cabinet to address illegal online businesses, including online gambling and football, were discussed along with reports from the Royal Thai Police and AMLO. Secondly, the Ministry of Digital Economy is set to consider the matter over approximately 60 days, considering the emergency decree issued in 2023. Lastly, discussions on the draft of the Entertainment Venue Act will continue, involving talks with the Office of the Council of State before submission for parliamentary consideration.

The report suggests that groups disadvantaged by the potential changes are attempting to overturn them by highlighting societal concerns, such as potential issues arising from casinos or entertainment venues. These groups utilize social media and other platforms to voice their opposition. However, the government asserts that bringing these activities above ground will allow for better oversight and solutions.
