Knife-Wielding Woman Attacks Tourists in Sukhumvit Area

Bangkok: A deranged woman wielding a knife attacked tourists and locals in Sukhumvit Soi 5, injuring two foreigners. Good Samaritans and motorcycle taxi drivers intervened to subdue her before notifying the police, who apprehended her.

According to Thai News Agency, a tense situation unfolded late at night in the Nana area. A woman, appearing to have a mental illness, wielded a knife and attacked tourists and pedestrians on the sidewalk in Sukhumvit Soi 5. Two foreigners were injured during the attack. The woman attempted to assault people, and Good Samaritans and motorcycle taxi drivers intervened to subdue her before calling the police, who apprehended her.

Investigations revealed she had previously been involved in a knife fight on a bus in the Thonglor area. Witnesses stated that the woman had been frequenting the area for a long time and had begun exhibiting violent behavior. Initially, Lumpini Police Station charged her with assault and sent her to Somdej Chao Phraya Hospital for a medical examination. If found to have a genuine mental illness, she will be treated before being taken into custody for prosecution.
