Krakow: Poland held its annual donut-eating contest on "Fat Thursday," a last chance for people to consume all their stored sweets and food before Lent, the period of fasting and abstaining from food. A donut-eating contest was held in Krakow on February 12th. Contestants had to eat as many donuts as possible within 5 minutes. It was so fast that they didn't even have time to taste the donuts; they had to devour them as quickly as possible!
According to Thai News Agency, this year's winner is Marcin Palis, who managed to eat seven plump donuts in five minutes. He said he already has a sweet tooth, so Polish donuts filled with various jams weren't a problem for him because his stomach is used to sweets. He enjoyed them immensely, without worrying about the sweetness or calories.
Fat Thursday is one of the most beloved festivals in Poland. Long queues form at bakeries, sometimes stretching for blocks, as people wait to buy pastries. The most popular treat is the Polish-style donut filled with various jams. Poles believe that if you don't eat at least one donut on Fat Thursday, you will have bad luck for the rest of the year. On average, Poles consume approximately 100 million donuts on this single day, making it the busiest time for bakeries nationwide.
