Bangkok: Ms. Kusumalawati Sirikomut, a former candidate for the Senate, has quietly taken a bold step by initiating an ethics investigation against Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. In an unexpected move, Ms. Kusumalawati submitted her complaint to the Office of the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives without prior notice to the media, though she was eventually spotted by reporters present at the parliament.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Kusumalawati emphasized her intent to maintain dignity and protect national interests by filing the complaint. She accused Mr. Anutin, who is also the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, of unethical practices in his role as an MP. She expressed her determination to pursue the matter, stating that her actions are aimed at upholding principles and addressing what she views as a criminal issue. Ms. Kusumalawati plans to submit her concerns to both the Ombudsman and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
Ms. Kusumalawati conveyed her resolve, indicating that no external pressure would deter her from seeking accountability. Despite facing opposition from individuals within the coalition government, she insisted that her actions are independent of any political affiliations and are solely focused on addressing wrongdoing. She stressed the importance of accepting responsibility for one's actions and called for appropriate punishment for misconduct, underscoring her commitment to ensuring ethical governance.
