Chiang mai: A dramatic rescue unfolded in the Huai Tung Tao area of Chiang Mai Province after a landslide buried a Don Kaeo Municipality worker under soil and concrete while he was involved in drainage pipe excavation. The swift response of rescue teams ensured the worker was saved and transported to the hospital.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 11:36 a.m. on September 10, 2025, when the Don Kaeo Rescue Team and the Human and Animal Rescue Team were alerted to the accident. The municipal official was performing duties at the Lum Khanom Krok Project in the Mae Rim District of Chiang Mai Province when the mishap took place.
The approximately 50-year-old official was inspecting the digging of a drainage pipe beneath a road. This project aimed to facilitate water drainage from the area, which faced potential flooding due to rising water levels in Huai Tung Tao. During the inspection, an unexpected collapse of soil and concrete slabs trapped him, burying parts of his body underground. Emergency efforts, including the use of a backhoe, were quickly employed to clear the debris covering his head and arms.
Bystanders and workers at the site promptly called for rescue support. It took about 20 minutes for the team to extricate the dazed official, who was then immediately taken to Nakhon Ping Hospital for treatment. The quick actions of the rescue teams played a crucial role in averting a potential tragedy.
