Satun: Authorities arrested the last suspect in the ransom case. Investigators from Satun province have apprehended the last suspect in the kidnapping of a young man and his girlfriend, who were demanded a 500,000 baht ransom. They surrounded a rented house in Chiang Rai and arrested the suspect.
According to Thai News Agency, investigators from the Satun Provincial Police surrounded and arrested Mr. Prakarn, also known as Em, after he was found hiding with his wife in a rented house in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. Mr. Em is a suspect wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Satun Provincial Court on charges of kidnapping for ransom, specifically for "conspiring to abduct a person over fifteen years of age by deception, threats, violence, coercion, or any other means of intimidation, or for restraining or detaining a person."
Mr. M had been evading arrest for over a year. He had recently fled to Tachileik, Myanmar, and secretly returned to live with his wife in this rented house. Authorities had been monitoring his movements and, in a planned operation, surrounded and apprehended him this morning. Mr. M surrendered peacefully, effectively closing this ransom case as he is the last suspect arrested.
This case dates back to August 6, 2024, when a group of 5-6 suspects abducted a woman and her boyfriend, demanding a 500,000 baht ransom from their residence in Satun Province. Authorities rescued the hostages while they were being transported north and have been pursuing the suspects ever since. Today, Mr. Prakarn, or "M," the final suspect, was apprehended, closing the case. He has been taken back to La-ngu Police Station, the location where the incident occurred, for further legal proceedings.
