Lawyers Council of Thailand Provides 13 Million Baht in Final Compensation for Building Collapse Victims

Bangkok: The Lawyers Council of Thailand has provided 13 million baht in compensation to the families of victims of the collapsed State Audit Office building. This is the fourth payment after three previous payments totaling over 97.8 million baht to 105 families, in accordance with legal procedures.

According to Thai News Agency, the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage held a ceremony to present moral compensation to the families of those who died and went missing in the earthquake that caused the collapse of the Office of the Auditor General of Thailand (OAG) building on March 28, 2025. Dr. Thanapol Kongchieng, President of the Lawyers Council of Thailand, presided over the ceremony, with representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, the Department of Special Investigation, and other relevant agencies in attendance.

This payment, the fourth and final installment, was given to representatives of the families of 13 deceased and missing persons: 12 Myanmar workers and 1 Thai national. Each received 1 million baht, totaling 13 million baht. This followed registration and eligibility verification for humanitarian assistance; three previous installments had already been distributed.

The incident resulted in 96 deaths and 9 injuries, totaling 105 casualties, including Thai, Myanmar, Lao, and Cambodian nationals. Each deceased person received 1 million baht in compensation, and each injured person received 200,000 baht, totaling 97.8 million baht in assistance. This support was provided by Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited and China Railway Number Ten (Thailand) Limited.

The president of the Lawyers Council of Thailand affirmed that the judicial process has been followed transparently and fairly to alleviate suffering and ensure justice for the families of the victims, both Thai citizens and foreign workers.
