Sisaket: Voting in the Preah Vihear border area of Sisaket province was lively, with officials ensuring tight security. Citizens began arriving early to cast their votes, aiming for an orderly and fair election process.
According to Thai News Agency, at the community hall in Ban Phum Srol Mai, located in Village No. 12, Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantaralak District, near the Preah Vihear Temple, people gathered to vote in a peaceful and orderly fashion. Despite the security concerns typical of this border area between Thailand and Cambodia, the atmosphere reflected a strong democratic spirit.
Mr. Veerayut Duangkaew, headman of Saothongchai Subdistrict, stated that detailed security preparations have been implemented. Polling stations in border regions are required to report developments regularly, with collaboration from relevant agencies to ensure public safety. He reported no current issues and expressed confidence in maintaining order throughout the day.
Local vendors added to the lively atmosphere by opening their shops near the polling stations. Many planned to close their businesses later in the morning to participate in the voting process.
This election featured three methods: proportional representation for Members of Parliament, constituency MPs, and a referendum. A significant number of elderly voters, including those over 90, participated, demonstrating their commitment to the democratic process despite the border area's security challenges.
