Mariah Carey Opens Up About Her Reluctance to Embrace the ‘Legend’ Label

New york: Mariah Carey, a name synonymous with musical excellence, has once again captured attention by candidly sharing her views on the title of "legend." Despite her record-breaking 19 number one hits, five Grammy Awards, and her iconic status as the queen of Christmas carols, Carey humbly refrains from embracing the legendary label often associated with her.

According to Thai News Agency, in a recent Billboard magazine cover interview, Carey discussed various facets of her illustrious career, her philanthropic pursuits, and her recognition as Musicares' Person of the Year 2026. She explained, "Everyone has a little meaning to what they say, but for me, I don't call myself a legend. I'm just someone who keeps working and will keep working hard."

The recognition as the 2026 Person of the Year underscores her commitment to numerous charitable causes, including disaster relief, youth empowerment, and support for underprivileged and LGBTQ+ communities. Carey remarked, "We should all do what we can to give back to society. Even though sometimes my schedule is so tight that I can't dedicate as much as I should, it's still an important part of my life."

The tribute event honoring Carey's contributions will feature performances from notable artists such as Adam Lambert, Billy Porter, Charlie Puth, Jennifer Hudson, and Kesha. Despite her modesty, the industry and her global fan base continue to view Mariah Carey as a true "legend."
