MEA joins hands with Bangkok to sign MOU to enhance cooperation on underground power lines project

Bangkok, 8 October - MEA joins hands with Bangkok to sign an MOU to enhance cooperation on the underground power cable project. Today (8 October 2024), Mr. Wilas Chalaysat, Governor of MEA or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, along with Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok (BMA), joined the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding on the project to change the overhead power cable system to underground power cables of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority between the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and Bangkok. Executives from both agencies also attended the ceremony at the Auditorium, Wattanawipas Building, Metropolitan Electricity Authority Headquarters, Klongtoey. The MEA Governor revealed that as agencies under the Ministry of Interior, MEA and Bangkok have a mission to improve the quality of life in both social and economic aspects of the metropolis. In the past, MEA has continuously implemented the project to change the overhead power line system to underground power lines to create stability in the power system, create safety, and improve the landscape to meet the energy needs of the people. This enhancement of cooperation will help drive the success of the goal of constructing the 313.5-kilometer underground power line project by 2029 and will also help improve the integration in various dimensions, such as coordinating plans to improve sidewalks and public lighting systems to be faster and more efficient, improving the process of resolving complaints from the Traffy Fondue system, and establishing a working group to monitor, control, consider, and expedite construction permits, as well as inspect the integrity of the underground power line project to improve preventive inspections during the project's construction. For the progress of the underground power line project, it has been completed for a distance of 73.4 kilometers, and is in progress for 240.1 kilometers, divided into 3 states: under construction for 176.7 kilometers, in the process of procuring contractors for 4 1.1 kilometers, and in the design process for 22.3 kilometers. - Thai News Agency Source: Thai News Agency
