Minister Narumon Assesses Success of Nakhon Phanom Lychee Plantation and Promises Support for Farmers

Nakhon Phanom: Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat, overseeing the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, visited Nakhon Phanom Province to review the success of the large-scale lychee plantation, Nop.1, which has become a significant economic driver for local farmers. During her visit, she expressed optimism about the future of rubber prices, projecting a return to former high levels.

According to Thai News Agency, Mrs. Narumon was accompanied by Ms. Anongnat Chakaew, Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and other ministry executives. They engaged with the Nakhon Phanom 1 Longan Large Plot Farmer Group, listening to the challenges faced by local farmers. The Nakhon Phanom 1 lychee, recognized as an important economic crop, aligns with the ministry's agenda to enhance high-value agricultural products. The plantation spans approximately 2,969 rai, producing around 2,500 tons annually, and the lychees are now registered as a GI product of the province.

Mrs. Narumon highlighted the export success of Thai fruits, contributing over 1 trillion baht to the economy, with lychees playing a pivotal role. She emphasized the ministry's pride in Thai agricultural products and affirmed its commitment to supporting farmers across various dimensions. The Nakhon Phanom 1 lychee variety, certified by GI standards, has brought international recognition to the region.

The minister assured farmers of the ministry's support, including the allocation of additional farmland and addressing water scarcity issues. She tasked the Royal Irrigation Department with exploring solutions for efficient water distribution to enhance agricultural productivity. Additionally, the Land Development Department is set to provide fertilizers and other resources to maximize the potential of agricultural lands, supporting the policy of sustainable agriculture and farmer income stability.

Addressing concerns of rubber farmers, Mrs. Narumon reassured them about price stabilization efforts. The ministry is collaborating with the private sector to ensure fair trade practices and aims to elevate rubber prices beyond their previous peaks. Coordination with relevant agencies will also be pursued to mitigate impacts on farmers from external factors beyond the ministry's control.
