Minister of Justice Supports Use of Hukum Pakat to Address Kratom Plant Misuse

Pattani: Minister of Justice visits "Ban Ko Lae" to support the use of hukum paka to drive the community, announces "Mayo District" as a prototype area for 120 days of operations, agenda of kratom plants in the wrong way. Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, along with Ms. Areephak Ngernbamrung, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Mr. Nantapong Suwannarat, Deputy Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center, Pol. Lt. Col. Narit Sondit, Director of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 9, and representatives of partner agencies visited the area to inspect the operation to solve the problem of the misuse of kratom plants at Ban Ko Lae, Village No. 1, Langa Subdistrict, Mayo District, Pattani Province, under the framework of the integrated action plan to prevent and solve the drug problem in the southern border provinces in all dimensions, 2025 - 2027.

According to Thai News Agency, the activity included a summary presentation of the operations in the area, focusing on the community's role in employing the Hukum Pakat or village constitution to effectively manage the Kratom plant issue. This effort was supported by the participation of religious leaders, community leaders, and the public sector, with case studies presented by representatives of religious and women leaders in the community.

The Minister of Justice commended the community's successful management of the problem, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from all sectors to sustainably address social issues. He highlighted the significance of religion and local culture as key mechanisms in this effort. The Minister expressed gratitude towards government agencies, religious leaders, local leaders, and citizens for their collective effort, declaring Mayo District as a 'model area' for the 120-day operation against kratom plant misuse. This initiative aims to serve as a learning center for other areas, applying lessons from successes and challenges to regional problem-solving strategies.

The field visit served not only as an inspection and information gathering mission but also as a reaffirmation of the government and network partners' commitment to resolving drug problems in the southern border provinces through community-driven approaches.
