Bangkok: "Surasak" energizes Thai athletes before competing in the Asian Games in Nagoya, emphasizing the importance of fighting with spirit and fulfilling their role as cultural ambassadors to bring honor to the country. According to Thai News Agency, Minister Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, delivered a motivational speech to the National Olympic Committee of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, officials, and athletes, totaling 279 participants, prior to their departure for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The event saw the presence of Mr. Pimol Srivikrom, President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand under Royal Patronage, along with officials and athletes from 35 sports associations. Among these were the Athletics Association of Thailand, the Table Tennis Association of Thailand, the Judo Association of Thailand, the Shooting Association of Thailand, and the Amateur Weightlifting Association of Thailand.
Mr. Surasak expressed his congratulations to all Thai athletes who qualified to represent Thailand at the Asian Games. He highlighted that their success is a result of their diligence, discipline, and dedication to training. He reiterated that the Thai government prioritizes promoting exercise and sports as key tools for enhancing the health and well-being of its people, aiming to develop strong human resources to foster national progress.
Furthermore, Mr. Surasak emphasized the dual role of athletes as competitors and cultural ambassadors. He underscored the importance of showcasing Thai customs, traditions, culture, and identity on the international stage. He reminded the athletes that while achieving victory is essential, it must be pursued with sportsmanship and respect for the rules, encouraging both winners and losers.
He concluded by highlighting that sporting events are opportunities to build friendships and wished the athletes success, hoping they would bring victory to all Thai people. The 20th Asian Games are scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026, with Thailand sending representatives to compete in 43 sports, comprising a total of 694 athletes and 991 personnel, including referees and officials.
