Ministry of Commerce and Private Sector Collaborate to Offer Discounts and Home Repair Services in the South

Hat yai: The Ministry of Commerce has partnered with the private sector to initiate a campaign aimed at reducing prices on essential household products in the southern region, offering discounts up to 80% for a month.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, the Minister of Commerce, announced that after the recent flooding crisis which significantly damaged homes, shops, and businesses, particularly in the Hat Yai District of Songkhla Province, various areas are undergoing urgent rehabilitation, repairs, and cleaning. The Ministry is implementing measures to alleviate financial burdens on residents, helping them return to normalcy swiftly.

The Department of Internal Trade is tasked with collaborating with major construction material manufacturers and retailers, such as Thai Watsadu, HomePro, Dohome, Global House, and Mega Home. They have launched a one-month campaign providing discounts on essential home repair products, with reductions reaching up to 80%. The campaign plans to increase inventory and expand distribution across 40 branches in the southern region, including Hat Yai, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. This initiative ensures that residents in all disaster-affected areas have access to necessary home repair supplies.

Beyond offering discounted prices, several businesses have also expanded their services to include repairs of homes and structures damaged by the floods. These services encompass interior and exterior renovations, painting, floor, wall, and ceiling repairs, and inspections and repairs of damaged structures. Technical teams are available for specialized construction projects, with experts deployed to Hat Yai and other severely impacted provinces to meet the heightened demand during the recovery phase.

Ms. Suphajee emphasized that the Department of Internal Trade and the Provincial Commerce Offices have been directed to closely monitor pricing, product availability, and the quality of repair services to prevent any exploitation of the public during this period of crisis.
