Ministry of Education Enforces Measures to Alleviate Parental Burden Amidst Economic Strains

Bangkok: The Ministry of Education has announced a decisive initiative requiring all schools to alleviate the financial burden on parents by enforcing strict measures without exception.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Education is transitioning from requesting cooperation to mandating practical implementation of these measures across the country.

Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Minister of Education, highlighted after his visit to Wat Amarintharam School that the rising cost of living is impacting households nationwide. The ministry has consistently prioritized reducing parental burdens, previously issuing a letter to educational institutions urging them to cut unnecessary expenses. Follow-up studies, however, indicated that while many schools have swiftly adopted these policies, some have yet to implement them, leaving parents to bear the costs or to inquire about the policies themselves.

The Ministry of Education acknowledges that educational expenses significantly concern parents. To ensure tangible results, the ministry has outlined two key measures with clear guidelines. The first measure mandates immediate expense reductions and regulatory adjustments to align with the current economic situation. This includes allowing students to continue using existing uniforms, encouraging flexibility in dress codes, and promoting the use of controlled-price learning materials.

The second measure focuses on providing more affordable learning materials. The Office of the Teacher and Educational Personnel Welfare and Support Commission will oversee the procurement and distribution of essential school supplies and textbooks at controlled prices, ensuring parents have access to quality yet affordable education resources.

To guarantee the full implementation of these policies, the Ministry of Education will conduct on-site visits, report results through the Chief Inspector, and open channels for direct feedback from parents. Should any educational institution fail to comply, the ministry will intervene immediately to resolve and monitor the situation.
