Ministry of Labour Coordinates Urgent Relief for Thai Crew Members Attacked in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour is urgently coordinating assistance for the 23 Thai crew members attacked in Oman. The ministry has ordered its affiliated agencies to visit and offer support to their families.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Santi Nantasuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and spokesperson for the ministry, revealed the progress in assisting Thai workers following the attack on the Thai cargo ship, the Mayuree Nari, near the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of March 11. The Labour Attach© at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi reported that the ship had 23 crew members, mostly Thais, who were forced to abandon ship and board lifeboats. Twenty crew members were rescued by the Omani Navy and safely brought ashore at Khasab. They are currently staying in hotels provided by the company, with the Royal Thai Embassy in Muscat coordinating with the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs to arrange a visit for them.

As for the three missing crew members, they are believed to be trapped inside the ship or possibly in the engine room. Thai and Omani authorities are conducting urgent search and rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Labour Attach© Office is coordinating with the Royal Thai Embassy in Muscat to provide close support and assistance to the Thai workers affected by the incident.

Mr. Santi further stated that Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, Minister of Labour, has expressed concern for the Thai workers affected by the incident. Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kacharak, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, has instructed agencies under the Ministry of Labour to visit and support the relatives of the three crew members, communicate the ministry's assistance to the families, and verify their entitlements.

The Ministry of Labour has coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Marine Department, and other relevant agencies to provide assistance and relief regarding the various benefits that the 23 crew members are entitled to.
