Mobilization of Military Engineers to Prevent Mae Sai Flooding

Mae Sai: Region 3 Army Commander reveals that soldiers from the Provincial Administration Organization, military engineers, local residents, and Mae Sai Municipality officials have created sandbag lines to prevent flooding after heavy rains, and have mobilized military engineers to quickly place big bags to prevent further flooding.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Kittipong Chaemsuwan, Commander of the Third Army Region, disclosed that after heavy rain fell almost all night, the water level in the Sai River rose, causing it to overflow the flood barrier and inundate areas such as the Ban Tham Pha Chom community, Sai Lom Joy Market, Talad Noi Mueang Daeng, Mueang Daeng community, Mai Lung Khan community, and Koh Sai community.

Civil Affairs Task Force 313, along with various military and local units such as the 3rd Army Area, 37th Army Circle, Pha Muang Task Force, Royal Thai Army Engineer Regiment, and Mae Sai Mittraphap Subdistrict Municipality, collaborated to provide relief. They filled sandbags to form flood prevention lines in affected villages and schools. Additionally, they surveyed the water situation at key locations like the first Mittraphap Bridge over the Sai River, noting a gradual decrease in water levels.

Military engineers were deployed with big bags to block areas beneath the first bridge over the river, where bridge repairs and waterway widening were underway. This intervention helped reduce the overflow into channels, mitigating flooding in the surrounding communities. Residents of affected areas such as Sai Lom Joy, Koh Sai, Mai Lung Khan, and Muang Daeng have started cleaning their homes where water had intruded.

The Engineering Department, equipped with heavy machinery, has been pivotal in dredging the Kok River and constructing flood barriers to aid in water drainage and prevent future flooding incidents in the community.
