Nonthaburi: A motorcyclist driving against traffic crashed into a bus and died at the scene in a tragic accident that occurred on the bridge over the Sai Noi intersection. The 59-year-old rider collided with the bus in the early hours, leaving a scene of destruction captured on a dashcam.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded around 00:45 AM in front of Makro Bang Bua Thong, located on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road in Bang Bua Thong Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. The air-conditioned bus, operating on route 134 (Bua Thong Keha - Mo Chit 2), sustained damage with its front bumper detached and windshield shattered. Mr. Woraphot, the deceased motorcyclist, was found at the scene wearing a Rider jacket, with his motorcycle severely damaged nearby. Police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station, alongside rescue workers and doctors from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, were present to investigate.
During the investigation, a significant moment occurred when a call came through on the deceased's mobile phone from a rider center, inquiring about an undelivered order. An officer on site answered the call and informed the staff of the incident that had transpired.
Mr. Nattapol, the 36-year-old bus driver, remained at the scene to provide his statement to the police. He recounted that while following a taxi and descending from the bridge, he noticed the motorcycle traveling against the traffic. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid the taxi, leading to the fatal collision with the bus.
Witnesses corroborated the bus driver's account, noting that the bus, which was returning from Kanchanaphisek Road, was overtaking a taxi when the motorcycle, traveling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with the bus. This particular location is notorious for accidents caused by motorcycles driving against the flow of traffic.
In the immediate aftermath, police conducted an initial interview with the bus driver and subjected him to a urine test. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to accurately determine the cause of the accident. The deceased's body has been transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, and efforts are ongoing to contact his family.
