Bangkok: The Department of Highways will implement the ALPR (Alternative Vehicle Recovery Permit) cash lane system on Motorway M7 starting March 3rd, enabling drivers to pass through toll booths without stopping to collect a toll card.
According to Thai News Agency, this initiative is part of an effort to enhance travel convenience on the M7 intercity expressway, which links Bangkok, Chonburi, Pattaya, and Map Ta Phut. The Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology will be fully integrated into cash-paying lanes to reduce congestion at toll booths. This first phase will commence at specific toll booths on March 3, 2026, from 8:00 PM onwards.
The new process will consist of three main steps: the vehicle enters the lane, the camera reads the license plate automatically, and drivers pass through without stopping for a toll ticket. The toll fee is paid only once at the exit checkpoint. To ensure smooth traffic flow, motorists are advised to follow the signs indicating "Toll tickets not being accepted," slow down, wait for the barrier to open, and avoid stopping for a toll ticket.
The Department of Highways plans to extend the ALPR system across all toll booths on Motorway 7 (M7) by mid-March 2026. For further assistance or inquiries, road users can contact the Department of Highways hotline at 1586, pressing 7 for a free 24-hour call.
