Bangkok: Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, presided over the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for data integration between the Department of Land Transport (DLT) and the Department of Highways (DOH). The event, attended by key officials from the Ministry of Transport and members of the press, took place at the Ratcharot Club Auditorium within the Ministry of Transport.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pipat stated that the MOU signifies the commitment of government agencies to collaborate in data integration to enhance public service efficiency. This initiative aligns with the Cabinet resolution of October 2, 2018, aimed at reducing administrative burdens on citizens, such as the need for photocopies of documents. The Ministry of Transport prioritizes transparent and efficient public services, particularly in the digital era, which facilitates smoother government operations and minimizes paper usage while ensuring data security.
The agreement allows the Department of Land Transport and the Department of Highways to share information, leading to faster service delivery and reduced procedural steps for the public and businesses. Data shared will include vehicle registration, licensing, traffic conditions, and road maintenance. The Ministry of Transport plans to extend data integration across all its agencies to support the transition to a digital government and the utilization of big data.
Mr. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, highlighted that the data integration agreement aims to enhance the Ministry's mission by developing a more efficient transport system. The DLT will share vehicle registration and driver's license data, among others, to support enforcement of transport laws and improve road safety. This collaboration is a crucial step toward transforming the Ministry of Transport into a data-driven organization, laying the foundation for Thailand's Smart Transport system.
Mr. Piyapong Chiwatnakulpaisan, Director-General of the Department of Highways, emphasized that the MOU is pivotal in upgrading national transportation management and road safety. The DOH will provide data on highway infrastructure and traffic conditions to support the DLT's operations. This data-driven collaboration aims to improve traffic analysis, monitor driving behavior, and align highway network development with actual usage, contributing to the government's digital transformation efforts and enhancing public safety and quality of life.
