Bangkok: "Prits" points out that it is useless for the government to increase the budget for the Ministry of Education but use the same structure. Mr. Phrits Wacharasindhu, MP of the Prachachon Party, discussed the draft of the 2026 budget bill of the Ministry of Education budget, saying that even though the budget in this section increased by 4 percent compared to 2024-2025, the old structure still exists. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wacharasindhu emphasized the need for a curriculum reset, arguing that the recently announced curriculum, although new, remains incomplete and was hastily prepared. The limited timeframe of just 45 days for teachers and schools to adapt to the new curriculum is insufficient, potentially leading to an ineffective implementation. He highlighted that many projects within the 2026 budget would increase teachers' workload unnecessarily. Mr. Wacharasindhu proposed reallocating budgets from non-beneficial projects to those that could genuinely enhance educational outcomes. He suggested comprehensive changes at both the project and structural levels to ensure the efficient use of the education budget. This includes resetting the curriculum to avoid the "old wine in a new bottle" scenario and reducing teachers' administrative burdens. Furthermore, he called for mechanisms to address educational inequality beyond scholarship grants, investment in technology that promotes effective learning rather than mere gadget acquisition, and aligning degree certifications with future skills. He also advocated for redefining the state's role in labor skill enhancement to foster a hopeful and positive initial interaction between citizens and the state. Mr. Wacharasindhu stressed that education reform is an urgent agenda that cannot be postponed.
