Bangkok: The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has ordered civil engineering contractors for the Purple Line electric train project to expedite filling in the tunnel entrance in front of the train station to reduce the risk of further soil subsidence. The company is also monitoring the movement of adjacent building structures.
According to Thai News Agency, the road surface collapse incident occurred in front of the entrance to Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road, close to the construction site of the 4th entrance-exit at Vajira Hospital Station (PP19) of the Purple Line Project, Tao Poon-Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) section, on the morning of 24 September 2025.
Mr. Kajpajon Udomthampakdee, Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), revealed that the MRTA has ordered the civil engineering contractor, CKST-PL JV, to expedite backfilling using sandbags and crushed rock to stop the flow of soil and groundwater into the stations, reduce subsidence, and enhance soil stability before proceeding with the next phase of construction. The area surrounding the sinkhole has also been cordoned off for public safety, and sandbags have been used to prevent further rainwater from flowing into the sinkhole.
