Su-ngai Kolok: Muslim brothers and sisters gathered in front of Su-ngai Kolok District Office to pray for peace. The atmosphere on the first day of the reopening of Su-ngai Kolok District in Narathiwat Province was marked by a gathering of more than 100 Muslims who joined in the Hayat prayer, seeking blessings for peace in the area following the bombing incident that occurred last Saturday night.
According to Thai News Agency, the area around the Su-ngai Kolok District Office on Sai Thong 2 Road remains closed on both sides. Traffic is still prohibited as the district office area continues to be cleared of debris and bomb fragments. Nearby roads, including those leading to Su-ngai Kolok School and the Su-ngai Kolok Municipality, are paralyzed in some sections. This morning, the Muslim community gathered once again to pray for peace and calm in the district.
Mr. Supiyan Daemaleng, the newly appointed District Chief of Su-ngai Kolok, faced the challenge of starting his tenure amidst the aftermath of the bombing. His immediate priority is to restore public services as government offices are currently unable to operate, particularly impacting the cross-border book fair which serves 300-400 users daily. Fortunately, nearby districts such as Su-ngai Padi, Waeng, and Tak Bai continue to provide services.
In terms of security, there is a concerted effort among the military, police, and administration to rebuild confidence and ensure the safety of tourists and residents. Mr. Ropa Iso, a local villager, expressed his desire for an end to violence, emphasizing the suffering it causes. He urged unity and peace among people across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, highlighted the importance of maintaining peace during Ramadan, suggesting that the effectiveness of negotiation partners should be assessed based on their ability to prevent incidents during this period. He reiterated the government’s commitment to calm the situation and mentioned that the southern border strategic plan, previously ordered by the National Security Council, would be presented for the second time.
