Na Nai Community Struggles with Aftermath of Landslides and Floods

Patong:Phuket Various agencies in Phuket province are continuing their efforts to clean up and clear rocks, mud, and debris that were brought down by flash floods from the 50-year-old Patong mountain into the Na Nai community in Patong subdistrict. This marks the second consecutive day of cleanup operations, as some businesses in the area begin to reopen.

According to Thai News Agency, the Na Nai community in Patong Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket, experienced heavy rain and a landslide late last night, which resulted in a large amount of rocks, mud, and debris burying houses and shops, affecting approximately one hundred households. Cleanup efforts are ongoing, with officials from various sectors working diligently to clear the area. However, intermittent rain is hindering the progress, and the significant accumulation of rocks and mud is preventing the reopening of the Na Nai road to normal traffic, leading to congestion in some areas.

In areas where the cleanup has been completed, several businesses such as convenience stores and laundromats have reopened. Nonetheless, many businesses remain closed due to the presence of sand and rocks. Authorities in Phuket continue to warn residents and tourists to remain cautious regarding heavy rainfall and the potential for landslides and mudslides, particularly in areas located on hillsides and near waterways, until October 29th.

The Patong Municipality has announced that residents affected by the incident can register at the Patong Municipality office to assess eligibility for compensation. Meanwhile, in Kamala Subdistrict, in front of Phuket Fantasea, where flooding had reached knee-high levels and caused the closure of one lane of traffic, conditions have improved, with water receding completely and traffic resuming as normal.
