Bangkok: Pol. Col. Tawi has disclosed that the National Legislative Assembly is set to consider the matter of Senate collusion without any postponement, denying any political influence in the decision-making process. The Minister of Justice has confirmed that the investigation into the alleged collusion in the selection of senators will reach a conclusion. The Minister clarified that, even if the Election Commission (EC) does not provide the necessary information, there is no directive to delay the proceedings.
According to Thai News Agency, the Special Case Committee is scheduled to convene tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. to decide whether to accept the case of Senate selection collusion as a special case. Earlier, the meeting had been postponed to gather more information from the EC and to establish a screening subcommittee in line with the regulations.
Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, stated that the Special Case Committee has already engaged with the EC to supply information and has invited them to attend the upcoming meeting. Although the details from the EC are not yet available, the subcommittee has formally requested this information. Regardless of whether the EC provides the data, the committee intends to proceed with the consideration. Pol. Col. Thawee emphasized that there is no predetermined agenda or political motivation influencing the process.
A subcommittee under the Special Case Screening Committee opined that the collusion in senator selection could be considered a special case under the Money Laundering Act, relating to offenses of a secret society. This opinion, however, is separate from the decision the Special Case Committee will make tomorrow. Should the case be accepted as special, a dedicated investigation team will be formed in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor. Conversely, if not accepted, other units may receive recommendations to pursue the matter.
