Sisaket: The National Mine Clearing Center (NMCC) has completed a significant mine-clearing operation along the Thai-Cambodian border in Si Sa Ket province, clearing over 5,000 square meters of land and discovering 16 explosive devices. According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Siwa Wang-akart, spokesman for the National Mine Action Center (NMAC), announced the deployment of a dedicated mine detection and clearance team to eliminate the threat from landmines and unexploded ordnance in the area. Mine Clearance and Destruction Teams 1 and 2 focused their efforts on the Chong Phra Phalai area, operating from the 2609 Ranger Company base in Khun Han District, Sisaket Province. Their mission involved conducting a Technical Survey (TS) to establish a safe passage and expand the area along the minefield. They successfully secured a safe zone of 685 square meters, discovering four MBV 78 A1 mines, which were subsequently relocated to a temporary explosive ordnance disposal site. The mine clearance operation in the C hong Phra Phalai area covered a total of 2,000 square meters, starting from January 21, 2026, to the present. The mission was successfully completed, with all risk areas cleared, resulting in the discovery of six landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO), including five MBV 78 A1 landmines and one 120 mm mortar round. In parallel, the 3rd Mine Clearance Unit supported the 614th Cavalry Battalion Task Force, Special Forces Infantry Regiment, 2nd Army Area, in clearing landmines and explosive ordnance from the Ma Lek operational base in Phu Pha Mok Subdistrict, Kantaralak District, Sisaket Province. They cleared an area of 1,485 square meters, discovering four PMN-2 landmines and one 100mm mortar round (UXO), which were safely stored at the Ma Lek operational base. A summary of operations at the Iron Horse Base from January 21, 2026, to the present reveals a total of 3,711 square meters of safe area achieved. Ten landmines and UXO were detected, comprising nine PMN-2 landmines and one 100 mm mortar round. Colo nel Siwa emphasized that the mission underscores the commitment of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Command and the National Mine Action Center to eliminate the threat of landmines and unexploded ordnance, aiming to restore safety, security, and a good quality of life for the people living in the Thai-Cambodian border area sustainably.
